| I'm leaving in just a few short hours to visit friends for a week. Please pray for me as I have a horrible cough. My doctor says it could be beginning bronchitis. not fun. Though my voice is quite husky. Also pray that I have wisdom in seeing what I will be seeing, discernment in seeing through the facades, and insight of what the future holds. | | |
| 10 days and so many people wrote blogs! wow! i was really impressed, as very few had been writing blogs lately.
I was in Switzerland for a conference. It was so good to see friends from around the world. While there I interviewed for a possible future position and met some people that I'll be visiting next week. There were so many kids, too. wow! We were so high up in the mountains, I had altitude sickness. This was really shocking, cuz I never had an issue living in Colorado. Maybe it was the drastic change in such a short time.... I needed to hear the messages given. It was a time of encouragement.
I'll "talk" to you all next week. Oh, please pray as time is winding down here. I leave permanently on Nov 20. Time is flying!
| It's Oktoberfest in Germany this month. Here there are lots of German workers, so they've set up special events throughout the month for their workers. Last night we went with a German lady to a restaurant that was serving German food for the month. Then we went to a concert. It was from the Dresden opera house, but the singer was American and the pianist Russian. hmmmm the interesting part, is that just a minute before the concert was to begin, the president and his wife came. they sat right in front; I was directly behind the president. The only thing between us was his security guard and a little boy. Another president will be coming to visit this country this weekend to have a statue of himself revealed. I can imagine the crowds. Wouldn't you know I have to go to the capital city that day, too. Can't do it any other time.... Oh, The music was pretty good. | | |
| My Saturday really started Friday night, when I got a call after 10 pm saying we were leaving on our excursion at 6:30 am instead of 8. Really? Seriously? I told them I wasn't going then. Most of you know me. I am NOT (repeat NOT!!!) a morning person. I set my alarm and decided to decide for sure in the morning (after a couple guilt trips were sent my way). So I didn't fully decide until 6 am. Then wouldn't you know the group was 10 minutes late picking me up! It was cold, dark, and in this culture not good for a woman to be out alone at that time.
We went to a town that was the hometown of one of the guys from my church (which is why I decided to go). He took us to a bakery his uncle owns. This town is known for a specialty item, and they only do it for breakfast. We went to the meat store and got sausage and then got eggs, took them to the bakery, where they put them on this special bread and put it in a huge coal heated oven. It was fun watching them put the bread in and out with this huge paddle. Amazing
Then the guy took us on a tour of the town. It's an interesting town, as there's a Catholic section, a gypsy section, an old town, a new town, and some others. It was bombed during the war, so some interesting history. Oh, this is in the area where I went some weeks before with the car being sooooo slow (O2 sensor). It was strange flying on that same road now.
Yesterday we went to church, normal... Then as my roommate and I were walking home from the parking lot to our apartment. We were crossing our street, no cars around (amazing for here). Then I heard this noise and looked up. A tank was just meters away from us, and speeding up. That's right, a TANK!!!! You could hear them pushing on the gas (or whatever fuel). I grabbed my roommate (who was looking to see who she got a phone call from- remember there was no vehicles anywhere near the intersection when we started across) and yelled "Oh, no!" We literally ran! They braked just feet from us!
Then my roommate went to a celebratory gathering, one of our workers graduated university, that night. His father saw all the tank incident!!! He was telling his family and our teammates about it. My roommate saw what country the tanks were from. I'd love to find a website to send a complaint!!!!
| I have no memory. It's true! *I can never remember what singer/group sings what songs (unless it was Beatles or Elvis). *I can never put the reference with the verse. I also tend to word things in a way that it means the same, just isn't word perfect of any certain version. I attended the same camp for at least 20 years (as camper and counselor). They had the same first verse sheet (out of six) every year. Only one year did I get past the first page. I tried. Just couldn't do it. *I can't remember phone numbers (my mother has everyone's number memorized). I can tell you the phone number from the house we lived in over 20 years ago and what our address was. *I couldn't memorize piano pieces for recitals. The only recital I did successfully was actually a failure. I played a Chinese piece, got the first 5 bars played, and then made all the rest of it up. The teacher didn't notice since it was such a weird piece! Though I do tend to remember people's birthdays well. So, I'm working on memorizing. I'm working on Phil 4. I'm up to verse 7, but it's not word perfect. In fact I'm pretty sure I'm mixing versions. Keep me accountable.
How did I pass school? Read my notes three times the night before. Make note cards and read them as I went into the test. I quickly learned never to second guess; I always got it wrong when I did. How's your memory?
